Math Resources for Parents
Math Resources

Portland Public Schools adopted Bridges beginning with the 2011-12 school year.  Bridges was developed over the course of the past thirty years by the Math Learning Center.  Originally it was located on the PSU campus and it is presently located in Salem, Oregon.  Funding for Bridges came from the National Science Foundation.  Bridges provides a constructivist approach to mathematics and it gives students powerful, consistent visual models for every concept at every level of learning.  The curriculum is differentiated to meet the needs of all students on the continuum.

There are three major components of Bridges in each classroom: Number Corner (the calendar component), Work Practice, and Number Games.

This website has games and practice sheets in many content areas, including math.

Fluency is particularly important.  Try the mad minute of basic computation facts.  It’s one minute of basic facts.  Children should work toward their personal best.
